Father's Day in Red

Father's Day was suppose to have been spend with my father. Instead I just got to spend part of the day with him.

Morning was dedicated to going to my dad's church. It's a small church like the one you see in small towns in Ohio or Iowa or Pennsylvania. The congregation was small. It could have been due to the World Cup game. Korea was playing at noon. Church started at 11am and scheduled to end at 12:30pm. Or it could have been their regular size. I'll have to go back on a normal day to know the truth.

Like most small church they love visitors. They always make it a point to put us in the spotlight so all could see. Well I was prepared for this. I've had many experiences. So when the time came I took a deep breath, stood up and took my bow. The next part I was not prepared for. In front of the whole congregation the minister asked, out loud, "Is she married?" OH MY GOD! He did not just ask my status to bunch of strangers as if I wasn't there. As if that wasn't bad enough, my dad failed to hear him so the minister repeated it again, louder! "Dad," I begged, "he's talking to you. Answer him!" Well my mistake. My dad not only answered correctly in the negative but added, "but we're trying." Uuugh. Luckily that was that and the minister moved on. Thank goodness for the World Cup and Korean craziness.

Ok this is how crazy Koreans were about that day. The choir that stood in front of me wore the classic robes. As soon as the service ended they turned into Superman copies. The robes have snap buttons. All I heard was the buttons popping and then saw a wave of bright red shirts. Before I could even register the transformations, I heard behind me pitter-patter of feet. I turned to witness two guys wheeling a large screen tv into the church. No joke. They are SERIOUS.

The visitors were quickly forgotten and luckily for this visitor, I had plans to meet Jenny for lunch and had to leave right after the service ended. Whew that was a close one.

LA

Last week I went to LA. It was for work. They sent me for training which was on Tuesday. Well I was able to get them to send me earlier on Friday so I could spend the weekend with Dad... Father's Day weekend. Brillant idea.

My father was thrilled that I was coming.
Thrilled because now I could set up his wireless for his laptop. And he wasted no time.
I landed late Friday night. Next morning before coffee could be made or suggestion of breakfast could enter the mind, my father asked me when we should go to Circuit City. Well I was able to convince him that we should go have breakfast, my treat. We went to IHOPs. Have you been lately? It's insane the amount of food they give you. After breakfast just as promised we went to Circuit City and picked up the wireless router. I install it and voila! he no longer needed the cable nor the small desk he bought for the laptop. Freedom is so sweet.

Like a good daughter I didn't stop there. I signed him up for a yahoo account, showed him how to upload digital photos and bookmarked all his favorite Korean sites. And as a bonus I got him this cool mouse that has a zoom button. It magnifies any part of the screen. That mouse made his day.

Couple of changes

Well 2006 has provided some changes.
Some was out of necessity like new job and new apartment.
The next two were out of desire to introduce a feel of change that's on my terms.

1. Haircut. I got one about three weeks ago. I've been meaning to take a picture of it but just didn't get to it. Not going to promise either. The cut is similar to the last one which was only 8 months ago (a bit early than my usualy once a year). My perm is starting to grow out so the bottom is still curly but the top is flat. Went to Lam again. Told him I wanted something lite and sexy but wanted to keep it long because I have to be able to put my hair up for Hyun's wedding in Oct. So he did just that. As part of the sexy look he gave me a very dramatic angled bangs. It was a huge hit with my colleagues. I think it's pretty cool too. Definitely brings out my eyes and face features.

2. Joined a gym. Yep I've gone and did it again. I joined a gym in hopes that I will get in shape primarily for Hyun's wedding where I will be the maid-of-honor and the only one in the bridal party. The wedding is in Arizona in October. It's gonna be pretty warm. I got myself a lovely, light-blue, summer sleeveless dress from DKNY. I've never paid that much for any wearable item, not even for a coat. But I knew when I saw the dress and after trying it on, it was perfect for me and for the wedding. So with all that money invested I wanted to look my absolute best in Arizona, in October, in the wedding pictures.

The gym is located near work. I've been getting up early. Already I've gone in twice and worked out before my 8:30am work hour. I've also taken advantage of their pilate and yoga classes. I even signed up for a private trainer. Yes I'm serious this time. Private trainer will start in a couple of weeks. This better work or I'll never join another health related institution again.

Celebrity Sighting

Exhausted from work I decided to walk a bit. Left Rockefeller Center and walked up Avenue of Americas (aka 6th Ave) towards Central Park. I was on my way to Le Pain Quotidien on 58th and 7th to pick up a catering menu. I am hoping to add them to my company's catering vender. I do love their sandwiches and pastries. So walking on 6th I stopped on the corner of 56th waiting for the walk sign. Across the street I see a couple. I noticed the man immediately because he looked quite attractive and familiar. Yes I do believe I recognize him.

Brad Garrett!
Best known for playing Robert Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond.

He looked good. He was tall but slim. He was wearing a nice dark suit and great designer glasses. His hair was dark and cut short and neat. He carried a long umbrella. I think what really made me notice was how happy he was. He really seemed to be enjoying the conversation he was having with the woman next to him. Anyway, Brad certain didn't come close to the Robert character at all. Today Brad looked like a successful ceo with his lovely wife in midtown Manhattan. Life has been good to him.
